Monsoon Resurgence After a Long Hiatus
After a dry spell that began in early August, the suburbs of Mumbai finally welcomed the return of monsoon rains on Tuesday morning. The rainfall, which had been eagerly awaited by the city's residents, followed a period of oppressive heat and sporadic light showers that offered little relief. The suburbs, including areas like Bandra-Kurla Complex, Marol, Andheri, Vile Parle, and Borivali, experienced a refreshing downpour, signaling the return of the monsoon.
City and Suburbs Await Consistent Rainfall
Despite the rainfall in the suburbs, central Mumbai has yet to experience a significant monsoon revival. Since the start of August, the city has seen only occasional light showers, leaving much of the region parched and residents weary from the heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light showers for Mumbai on Tuesday, with a higher likelihood of rain accompanied by thunder in the neighboring districts of Thane and Palghar. Additionally, strong winds, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour, are expected to sweep through these areas.
Forecast for the Coming Days
Looking ahead, the IMD predicts more rain for the state over the next few days, with heavy rainfall anticipated in the Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra regions. The weather patterns contributing to this forecast include a low-pressure area over South Bangladesh and surrounding regions, which is expected to move northwestward. Furthermore, a low-pressure belt extending to Tamil Nadu and the Comorin region may also influence the weather in the days to come.
As Mumbai and its surrounding areas brace for the return of the monsoon, residents are hopeful for a more consistent and substantial rainfall to alleviate the recent heat and dry conditions.
